China 2018: Lily-Wai's Music
Lily Wai Edwards has a passion for music. Throughout her life, she has been learning and performing music with a piano, her guitar, and amazing vocals. Since coming to TGS, Lily Wai has not let her travels get in the way of her love of music. Thanks to the new structure of TGS’s project-based learning, Lily Wai has been able to share her music with the rest of the community. Through the development of her personal project, Lily Wai has turned her love of music into a multitude of original songs.
After weeks of dedication, creativity, and peer review, Lily Wai has created 5 new songs. Each song is based on a different aspect of her life. The songs she has written each differ from one another, but all follow similar structures since they are in her album. According to Corinna O of the USA, Lily Wai is a “soft singer-songwriter”, who writes “almost dreamy songs”. After the term in Spain, Lily Wai arranged to record all of her songs at a studio.
“The feeling of making and innovating something completely new is an amazing feeling no matter what medium you choose to convey it,” says Lily Wai in her advice to any budding artist. Lily Wai’s project which incorporates many of the TGS core values such as Meraki and Kaizen, inspires a collective standard for better projects. In the showcase, there was an opportunity to witness this first hand.
During the Symposium, Lily Wai debuted two of the songs from her album while on stage. It was a live performance on the guitar with vocals. Starting out slightly nervous, Lily Wai quickly gained confidence, delivered a riveting performance that left people in tears.
A few weeks later, Lily Wai is recording her music in a professional recording studio. Piecing together the final elements of her project, Lily Wai is setting her sights on promoting her songs and further pursuing her passion for music.
