What's in A Name? by Amelie Andreas
Apparently a whole lot of stress and shouting matches.
One name, five letters, approximately infinity hours of arguing. Otherwise known as the absolute hell that was deciding what to call our brand new business.
Drilled into our heads was the notion that your name was the one thing people would remember about your business, the be all and end all of brand, image, and public opinion. Our name couldn’t just be good, it had to be great. Or at least, like, pretty good.
That being said, EdArt has gone through a number of interesting and wildly varying nominal phases, from ‘Warli Shakti’, to the controversial latin-inspired ‘Pont’. We basically stopped arguing about the name once it was immortalized in company stickers, and that was only because the stickers were really really cool .
EdArt itself is a mishmash of the words education and art and came about as a sort of last resort. Our wonderful CEO Alicia was sick of her underlings arguing over names for the past few hours and looked at the options on the board, some of which were very interesting to say the least, and decided that if no one could come up with another option in the next five minutes they were going to stick with one of those and that was that. No one dug up anything better, and thus EdArt was born.
Now, we’ve all grown to love our weird, misshapen name, regardless of its questionable relevance to our actual mission or the way it rhymes with the word fart.
Edart is here to stay, even if that’s mostly just because there’s absolutely no way I’m throwing away my company pen at this point.
