Espressos, Coffee Blends, and Rome
Espressos, coffee blends, and the beautiful city of Roma; Keo, Alicia, and I attended an intensive barista course over the break to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to complete our Mastery project.
As a part of the team KRONOS, our group works in helping you discover the true cost behind your cup of coffee and then helping you make the most sustainable and ethically sound choice. This will be through the form of a mobile app with a directory of cafes, making the search as simple as one click.
The 5-day barista course guided us through the journey of the bean from the moment the fruit is picked, through the roasting process; to when it hits your cup, providing a prerequisite foundation of knowledge. In addition to the theoretical aspect, practical implementations included milk handling, latte art, customer service, and barista marketing. World-renowned coffee expert, and our teacher for the week, Fabio Milani, was not shy in making sure we were making every cup to pure perfection. Not only were we able to learn from local masters, but also share our passion for coffee with others who share this interest.
Highlights of the week include Keo winning the friendly competition as he made the most impressive cappuccinos in the fastest amount of time, the first time we all managed to successfully craft latte art, and of course, receiving our hard-earned diplomas at the end of the week.
KRONOS: now a team of certified baristas determined to create a network of conscious coffee consumers. Having conquered the art of coffee in the capital of the country of espresso, the three of us are immensely grateful for having had this opportunity, and we can’t wait to implement and expand our learning as the project progresses.
